The fourth generation of the BMW 3 Series. The Performance Package, referred to by its order code ZHP, was an option available to the North American markets starting in 2003 for the sedan models. Upgrades included various exterior and interior aesthetic changes over the standard 3 Series, as well as functional and mechanical enhancements. Power from the M52B30 was increased 10hp, largely due to the more aggressive camshafts, revised engine tuning, and free-flowing exhaust. Redline increased 300 rpm from 6,500 to 6,800. Upgraded M suspension included firmer springs and dampers, larger anti-roll bars, stronger front control arm ball joints, a lower ride height by 15 mm, heavy duty steering rack, and slightly more negative camber. Interior improvements comprised of sport seats in Alcantara/cloth combination, anthracite headliner, aluminum cubed trim, and a thicker M Sport multi-function steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara. Special features include the M-Tech II aerodynamic package: M-Tech II front bumper with M-Tech fog lights.
