The E9X M3 was the first and only standard production M3 to be powered by a V8 engine, the S65B40. The E9X was also the first BMW to be offered with a dual-clutch transmission, the M-DCT. The S65B40 was the fastest revving production engine ever produced by BMW at that time, with an 8,400 rpm redline. Available in coupe, sedan, and convertible configuration, the E9X chassis was the last M3 to be produced as a coupe or convertible.
